The Elverum mittens

These are knitted in a two coloured pattern. The colours can vary, but the pattern is always the same. They are sold in the Husfliden shop in Elverum. The original pattern for them was lost in a fire in the shop during the invasion of Norway in may 1940, but are reproduced by recollection of the pattern.

The word from the old ladies in the area is that the Elverum mittens started to be produced in the beginning of the 1930s. During this time the mittens were knitted in almost every house in the little town of Elverum. It was a great demand for them, and most of them were exported to the US.
